Books

Churches and faith communities face the same problems as other organizations, but with a major twist: their internal conflicts do far more damage than similar fights in the workplace, and as a result, are more challenging to bring about lasting peace.

The reasons are not hard to find: Workplace conflicts have a management hierarchy that has the power to support, admonish, or terminate employees. Since their job is their main source of income, everyone has an incentive to find ways to "get along" with each other, and management can enforce it.

Not so churches.

Although churches usually have similar rules, policies, procedures, and power centers as corporate workplaces, faith communities are built on the relational foundations of trust, forgiveness, and mutual respect. This is a much more intimate landscape than any other workplace. Internal conflicts are like a train wreck with powerful forces in direct conflict. It is no wonder, then, that church conflicts do far more serious damage to already-troubled congregations than denominational fight.

The Road Home

A Guided Journey to Authentic Forgiveness and Reconciliation

What is forgiveness, exactly?

How does it work? What are the benefits?

Why should I forgive?

Don't they just get away with it when I forgive?

What if they're not sorry?

Some things are unforgivable, aren't they?

What's in it for me?

These are all common and reasonable questions, but the answers may surprise you!

This book is based on scripture, clinical studies, and my personal experiences trying to forgive sustained childhood abuse and betrayal by a trusted friend - my pastor.
